Union Bank’s 19-Year Debt Nightmare: Customer Left in the Dark Over Mysterious N387,665 Debt!
In a shocking turn of events, a former Union Bank customer has come forward with a tale of bureaucratic bungling that has left him baffled and frustrated. Chukwu Ifeanyi, a customer who last interacted with the bank in 2006, recently discovered that he owes the bank a staggering #387,665.84 – nearly two decades after he stopped banking with them.
The twist? Ifeanyi claims he never took out a loan or overdraft from Union Bank, and the bank never contacted him about the alleged debt. In fact, it was his current bank that informed him of the debt, leaving him confused and concerned.
Ifeanyi’s ordeal began when he relocated and stopped banking with Union Bank’s Area 3 Garki branch in Abuja. Despite never being contacted by the bank about the debt, his name has been flagged as a debtor. The bank’s inability to provide answers has left Ifeanyi seeking urgent resolution.
In a remarkable display of customer advocacy, Ifeanyi is fighting back, appealing to Union Bank to cancel the debt and issue a letter of no indebtedness. Will the bank take responsibility for its alleged mistakes and clear Ifeanyi’s name? Only time will tell.
Read the letter below
“I write to complain about an undeserved punishment that was melted out to me by your bank which was not communicated to me but I had to find out from another bank. I banked with your bank between 2005 and early 2006 at Area 3 Garki branch Abuja and my account details Chukwu ifeanyi 1030043204 (pls am not sure about this account number but I will attach a copy my cheque leaf to this mail for verification).
“I stopped banking with your bank bcos I relocated to another place and during the time I was banking with your bank I never collected any loan or overdraft from union bank plc but to my greatest suprise I was informed by my current bank that I am in debt of #387,665.84 to Union bank plc.
” I was confused when I got this information and I still am, being that it’s over 19yrs since I did any banking transactions with union bank plc. I had also gone to my former branch at Area 3 Garki and they couldn’t give me an answer. Since I stopped banking with union bank no body had contacted me either via email or phone call till today not even my account officer as it is done in other banks but my name is flagged by union bank as a debtor which I know nothing about.
“I appeal that this debit be cancelled and a letter of No indebtedness be issued to me, kindly treat as urgent.”
Yours faithfully,
Chukwu ifeanyi.
