Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Customs Hold Successful Fire Drill at 11-Storey Headquarters

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has successfully conducted a fire drill with officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as part of a two-day intensive training exercise focused on fire safety and emergency response. The training, which began yesterday, concluded today with a practical demonstration at the Customs headquarters in Abuja.

The concluding session featured a comprehensive fire drill organized by the Inspectorate, Investigation, and Enforcement (IIE) Department of the Federal Fire Service. The exercise simulated a multi-storey fire scenario to test staff readiness, evacuation response, and coordination during emergencies.

During the drill, the 11-storey headquarters building was successfully evacuated within 15 minutes, with officers responding promptly to the simulated emergency. The Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, O.C. Orbih, led other senior officers in the exercise, which highlighted the importance of swift and coordinated response in saving lives and property.

Assistant Comptroller General B.T. Mohamed supervised the entire drill, which also featured live demonstrations on the correct use of fire extinguishers, hose reels, and other firefighting equipment. Participants were also trained on the fundamentals of fire prevention and control measures applicable to office environments.

The successful exercise underscored the strong inter-agency collaboration between the Federal Fire Service and the Nigeria Customs Service. Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to promoting workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and the protection of national assets through continuous training and capacity building.
