Apapa Customs Decorates Newly Promoted Officers

… Hands Over N21.6 Billion Worth of Tramadol to NDLEA
Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba, in charge of the Apapa Area Command, decorated newly promoted officers, emphasizing the increased responsibilities accompanying their new positions. The event, attended by heads of sister agencies, stakeholders, and loved ones, occurred at the command on Wednesday, 10th January 2024.
Comptroller Jaiyeoba urged the officers not to view the promotion as a means to assert authority but to approach it with increased dedication, stating, “Promotion is a result of hard work.”
Acknowledging the efforts of the Apapa Command, he commended the timely release of exam results, breaking the tradition of delayed promotions.
Expressing gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, Jaiyeoba lauded his commitment to the welfare of officers and the seamless promotion process.
The ceremony recognized officers for exceptional service delivery, emphasizing teamwork’s crucial role in revenue generation. Jaiyeoba credited outstanding officers for surpassing the annual revenue target of N1.1 trillion, overcoming challenges identified since his tenure began in September.
CSC Olajide Magaji, one of the promoted officers, pledged to contribute to achieving the command’s revenue target, suppressing smuggling, and facilitating trade.
Simultaneously, Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba handed over seized tramadol worth N21.6 billion to NDLEA Narcotics Commander Apapa. He reiterated the Nigeria Customs Service’s unwavering commitment to combat illicit drug importation.
“This seizure is intelligence-driven, and we are actively pursuing those involved in this illegal importation,” Jaiyeoba stated.
Acknowledging collaboration with sister agencies, NDLEA Commander Udotong Essien expressed commitment to working with Customs to dismantle drug traffickers’ activities.
“We will continue to work together with Customs to cripple the activities of drug traffickers,” Essien affirmed, highlighting the impact of removing seized tramadol from the streets on creating a safer Nigeria.
