Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has addressed the public following a deadly bandit attack at the National Park Office in Oloka Village, assuring residents that security has been reinforced and normalcy restored in the affected area.

The governor confirmed that the attack, carried out earlier in the day, resulted in the death of five officers of the National Park Service Forest Guards who were on lawful duty. He described the incident as a painful loss and paid tribute to the fallen officers for their service to the nation.

“Earlier today, there was a criminal attack by bandits at the National Park Office, Oloka Village which resulted in the death of five National Park Service Forest Guard Officers. This is a devastating loss of the lives of personnel in the course of carrying out their lawful duties. May their souls rest in peace,” Makinde said.

According to the governor, preliminary findings from security agencies indicate that the incident was a cross-border attack, suggesting that the perpetrators may have operated from outside the state. He noted that security agencies are already collaborating to investigate the attack and prevent further threats.

Makinde emphasized that intelligence-led operations are ongoing and urged residents in the area to support security agencies with useful information that could aid their investigations and response efforts.

“Let me appeal to residents of Oyo State especially those in Oriire LGA and other LGAs along our borders, to remain calm as the security agencies have restored normalcy and deployed more personnel to the area,” the governor stated.

He further reassured citizens that his administration is committed to strengthening security across border communities and would take decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such attacks, stressing that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority for the state government.
