NNPC Limited has announced the successful restoration of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) following an explosion that disrupted operations in Warri, Delta State, in December 2025. The company said the pipeline has now been fully repaired, tested, and returned to service.
The explosion occurred on December 10, 2025, prompting an immediate emergency response from NNPC Limited. According to the company, coordinated containment measures were swiftly deployed to prevent further damage, while technical teams were mobilized to assess and address the affected section of the pipeline.
NNPC Limited explained that multidisciplinary teams worked around the clock to repair the damaged segment, carry out pressure testing, and ensure the system met all safety and operational standards before recommissioning. The successful restoration, the company noted, was achieved within a short time frame despite the scale of the incident.
The national oil company attributed the swift recovery to the cooperation and support of host communities, regulatory authorities, and security agencies, as well as the dedication of its partners and staff. It described the collaboration as critical to restoring operations efficiently and safely.
NNPC Limited emphasised that safety and environmental protection were prioritised throughout the repair process. The company said all activities were conducted in line with established safety protocols and environmental standards to minimise risks to surrounding communities and ecosystems.
With the ELPS now fully operational, NNPC Limited stated that the restoration reinforces its commitment to energy security and infrastructure reliability. The pipeline plays a vital role in transporting gas across key parts of the country, supporting power generation and industrial activities.
Looking ahead, the company reaffirmed its pledge to safeguard communities, protect the environment, and maintain the integrity of its assets. NNPC Limited expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support and reiterated its commitment to powering Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
